Raised in Central Florida, Captain Tyler Cox has been fishing since he was three feet tall. He started out freshwater fishing the lakes and rivers for bass and bluegill. When he was 8 years old, his uncle took him fishing in the Indian River Lagoon, where he caught his first redfish. He has had salt in his veins ever since! At the age of 12 he and his father became certified divers. Throughout his teens Tyler spent the summers at his grandmother’s house on the Sebastian River boating and fishing. As he got older, the offshore adventures began and so did his passion for deep sea fishing.
While continuing to fish, Tyler spent 14 years working as a Lieutenant/Paramedic for Brevard County Fire Rescue and completing his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. Tyler retired from the fire department and started fishing full time. Tyler has owned and operated his own commercial fishing vessel for over three years; commercial fishing for king mackerel, grouper, snapper, amberjack, mahi, cobia and much more.Tyler met Captain Chris Cameron through the fire service and fishing out of Port Canaveral. He was even featured on ESPN’s show, The Fishing Adventurer, with host Cyril Chaquet. The show began filming in Port Canaveral where they sight fished for cobia on their way to the Bahamas in pursuit of yellowfin tuna and wahoo.
Tyler has worked for Captain Chris on and off for the past few years, when not commercial fishing. During this time Tyler found much joy in sharing his fishing experience with others as a charter boat captain. This led him to join Fired Up Fishing Charters as a full time captain. Tyler is nothing shy of friendly and family oriented. Many have said he is more excited than they are when they catch a fish for the first time. And if you are lucky, you may even get to see his famous “Shark Dance”!
